Consensus and expertise saved the lynx

The Iberian lynx has a mythical, dreamy, elfin aura. Against all odds, it managed to beat the rate of extinction, a miracle that required a lot of science, commitment and consensus.

It’s a spring morning in Matachel Valley, in the Badajoz province. We walk through thickets and meadows, surrounded by yellows, blues and greens. The imperial eagle flies by, the curlew and oriole sing, a black vulture perches on its oak. A deer walks past us, then a rabbit, and another, and another. There goes the fox. The otter splashes in the river, the partridges courtly trot along the road. The Iberian fauna gleams before our eyes. But no trace of its main protagonist...
