Purposes

General Objective

Get a number of lynxes and a number of populations that will ensure the survival of the species, and that make it possible to reduce their degree of threat. Therefore, we intend to propose to the IUCN to move the Iberian lynx from the threaten category of “critical danger (CR)” to “in danger (EN)”. 

Specific Objectives

1. To increase the number of individuals to at least 70 territorial females in Sierra Morena (50 in Andújar-Cardeña, 10 in Guadalmellato and 10 in Guarrizas) and 25 in Doñana-Aljarafe.

2. To identify, prepare and establish 5 new areas of reintroduction in Portugal, Castilla - La Mancha, Extremadura, Murcia and Andalucía, with sufficient capacity to achieve self-sustaining populations of Iberian lynx.

Partial Objectives

1. To achieve a rate of specimens’ fixation of 50% or more of the released individuals.

2. To achieve in the second year of release the fixing of not less than 33% of the reintroduced females.

3. To increase the 7% of the population’s heterozygosis of the Iberian lynx in Doñana-Aljarafe and the 3% in the East of Sierra Morena, through genetic reinforcements.

4. Quantifiable Increase of the connectivity between the different cores of population.

5. To reduce the impact of the outrages in 30% of the total population, relative to the 2006-2011 period.

6. Decrease of the value of mortality provoked by poaching in 20 % relative to the 2006-2011 period.

7. To get a high degree of social support and participation in the reintroduction areas, evaluable through surveys.

8. Participation of private property and hunters’ societies through the establishment of Collaboration Agreements.

The achievement of these targets, would go from 270 Lynxes in 2010 to nearly 450 in 2016 that will be distributed in at least six towns, what might lead to be able to move the species from the category of 'in critical danger' to 'in danger'.
