2018-05-09
The Life+Iberlince project 'Recovery of the historical distribution of the Iberian lynx in Spain and Portugal', through the Autonomous Organization of National Parks (OAPN) as a beneficiary partner of the European project, organized a conference in the Vale do Guadiana reintroduction area (Portugal) with a group of journalists from different Spanish and Portuguese media with the goal of informing these professionals regarding field actions carried out by the project in this area, where a total of 33 Iberian lynx specimens have been released into the wild since February 2015.
On the first day - held yesterday in Mértola - participants attended a talk with Life Iberlince project director, Miguel Ángel Simón, who examined the results of the latest Iberian lynx population census; the species’ main threats, presently; as well as future actions, aimed at ensuring connection between populations of different areas distributed throughout the Peninsula. Then, Pedro Rocha and Margarida Fernandes, who head the project in Portugal, presented Life Iberlince’s main achievements in the area, where the Iberian lynx population amounts to 34 specimens, according to the 2017 census data.
On the second day, which will take place today, they will visit sights where actions have been carried out by the project in this area and, thus, gain a broader outlook of the Life Iberlince project and impart it to their readers.
