The Iberlince project’s nocturnal excursions continue tomorrow in Andújar
2018-06-08
During the tour, participants will be introduced 'in situ' to the places where the Iberian lynx lives
Within the scope of its informative actions, the Life+Iberlince project 'Recovery of the historical distribution of the Iberian lynx in Spain and Portugal' (2011-2018) scheduled a new nocturnal excursion for Saturday morning through Iberian lynx territories in Andújar (Jaén), in which citizens, along with project specialists, will trek territories where the Iberian lynx lives.
This is the second route planned by Iberlince in the Jaén and Córdoba provinces for the month of June, and consists of an 11 kilometre round-trip linear route over an estimated three and a half hours. The first one took place on Saturday, June 2nd, in Villafranca de Córdoba, with ample citizen participation.
During the route, leaving from Camino Viejo at 8:30 pm, participants will traverse the Los Cerrillos trail, and then return to Andújar. This path is part of the Pilgrim's Path, used by pilgrims to ascend from Andújar to the Virgen de la Cabeza Sanctuary.
This participatory initiative – during which specialists will teach trekkers the essentials about the Iberian lynx’s (Lynx pardinus) biology and ecology, as well as actions carried out by the Life Iberlince project in the area – aims to raise awareness regarding the importance of social participation in the recovery of endangered species.
For further information about the Iberian lynx nocturnal excursions, or to sign up for them, please send an email to info@ecotactil.com or call 633 121 553 or 600 345 991. A free bus connection from Córdoba to Villafranca de Córdoba (departing at 7:30 pm) will be made available to participants.
