Córdoba’s Sierra Morena will be the setting for the next Iberian lynx nocturnal excursion
2018-06-13
Within the scope of its informative actions, the Life+Iberlince project 'Recovery of the historical distribution of the Iberian lynx in Spain and Portugal' (2011-2018) carries on with its lynx nocturnal excursions. The next one will take place Saturday, June 16th, in Córdoba’s Sierra Morena, and it will be open to every citizen who wishes to trek the territories inhabited by the Iberian lynx.
Along this route, extending roughly 11 kilometres and of low-medium intensity, hikers will cross the Trassierra path, the Torrehoria entrance, the Caño farmhouse, Fuente del Arco – where a stop is scheduled to rest and enjoy the landscape –, Arroyo del Molino, Fuente del Elefante and Vereda de la Pasada del Pino, then circle back to Trassierra.
This is the third excursion organized by Iberlince during the month of June in the of Jaén and Córdoba provinces (the first took place on the February 2nd in Villafranca de Córdoba). Departure is scheduled at 9:00 p.m. from Santa María de Trassierra, and it will last approximately three and a half hours.
This participatory initiative – during which specialists will teach trekkers the essentials about the Iberian lynx’s (Lynx pardinus) biology and ecology, as well as actions carried out by the Life Iberlince project in the area – aims to raise awareness regarding the importance of social participation in the recovery of endangered species.
