Iberlince gathers conservation experts from different Life projects at an international seminar
2018-10-26
The event will be held next Monday at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Seville
Conservation experts from different Life Nature projects will discuss the Iberian lynx conservation at the international seminar that the Life Iberlince project 'Recovery of the historical distribution of the Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus) in Spain and Portugal' (2011-2018) will hold next Monday, 29th, at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Seville. The participants will also analyse the actions carried out in their respective projects to resolve social conflicts generated for their development.
The intense session will be opened by the Minister of Environment and Territorial Planning, José Fiscal, and the issues to be discussed include: the connectivity of Iberian lynx populations in the Peninsula – the next Life Iberlince project’s main goal; support of the LIFE Nature program; genetic management in the conservation of the Iberian lynx; conflicts between humans and wildlife in the conservation of species; habitat fragmentation due to transport infrastructures; and specimen reintroduction.
The seminar will take place at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Seville, and will be attended by the heads of the Life projects 'The wolf of Andalusia: changing attitudes', and the PiroLife project 'Consolidation of a bear population in a fragmented management territory: Central Pyrenees', as well as representatives of public organizations and NGOs - like WWF Spain - who work in species conservation, and representatives of Portugal and the four autonomous communities (Andalusia, Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha and Murcia) involved in the Life Iberlince project, who will share the project’s experiences in each area.
There will also be interventions by: Jim Sanderson, Global Wildlife Conservation; Santiago Segura, the Institute for Environment and Sustainability; José Antonio Godoy, Doñana Biological Station; and Valeria Salvatori, Institute of Applied Ecology. These will focus on their respective roles in the conservation of species that generate conflicts between humans and wildlife.
